Community Partnerships

Get Connected

Toormina Gardens continues to grow their community partnerships with groups such as Get Connected Toormina. Get Connected Toormina is a community engagement project operating in the Toormina area with the aims of increasing community safety and well-being. The project has a Project Implementation Group that consists of a range of stakeholders (service providers, businesses, community members) who are a vital component of the success of the project. The project coordinates a number of initiatives including: regular community engagement to help inform the project’s on-going activities, sports afternoons at Graff Ave, monthly BBQs at the Toormina Skate Park and Graff Ave, and the development of other community well-being, youth leadership and arts and culture programs.

The project has also been successful in obtaining funding to work with Coffs Harbour City Council to further improve the Skate Park infrastructure. The project has also been successful in setting up a Local Drug Action Team Program, which will enable further community activities to be delivered in the area with the aims to strengthen protective factors to prevent and minimise the risk of alcohol and other drug-related harm.

Build a Patch with Toormina Daycare

Toormina Gardens has provided a small parcel of the centre's unused land to nearby Toormina Daycare to create their little "Build a Patch" project.  This allows the children to learn about the environment, it's native flora and fauna and sustainability.

Little Blue Dinosaur

Since 2018 Toormina Gardens has build a partnership with The Little Blue Dinosaur Campaign to spread the message on the importance of holding children’s hand around roads.

The Little Blue Dinosaur was created in the memory of Tom who was a vibrant and loving young boy with a zest for life and an unforgettable smile, and he continues to be a powerful motivator of the foundation every day, with the drawing of blue dinosaurs that he loved to do so much becoming the logo for his foundation. The tragic loss of Tom in a pedestrian road accident on the Central Coast in 2014 motivated us to establish the Little Blue Dinosaur Foundation (LBD), ensuring the promising legacy we saw in Tom’s young life is realised through child road safety initiatives and education.

The Little Blue Dinosaur Foundation is a voice for children. It is Tom’s voice. A clear, determined and passionate voice that speaks to children, for children and their safety. Tom’s message “Slow down; kids around” is an essential one that must be heard in every street, city and town. The work of the Foundation is Tom's legacy and a single life saved through education and awareness raised in his name is an objective we are all very proud to strive for.

Sustainability

Solar Panels

  • System size: 300kW
  • Approx annual generation (based on last 12m): 424,000kWh of clean energy per year, reducing our carbon footprint by approximately 347 tonnes of CO2e every year
  • This is enough clean energy to power approximately 109 homes per year, and is equivalent to taking approximately 100 cars off the road each year

Toormina Gardens is proud to be part of  the NSW Return and Earn scheme.

Littering spoils our environment, costs millions of dollars to clean up, and depletes our recyclable resources.

The NSW Return and Earn scheme has contributed to a 40% reduction in litter since its launch in December 2017 to June 2020. Together with Cleanaway, over 2 billion containers are being returned and processed every year. All of these containers are being recycled – most of them back into new containers again.

  • Donate your redemption credits and support local causes
  • Vouchers can be redeemed at Coles Toormina
  • User-friendly App
  • Please remember to take your storage containers away with you
