Toormina Gardens is excited to announce that council has approved the $1.5 million dollar reconfiguration of the external areas of the centre. The works will vastly improve the safety, access, and configuration of the car park.

After close consultation with our customers, we determined that car park and internal road safety was of major concern. Further analysis enabled us to put together a schedule of proposed works that aim to ease congestion and enhance access to Toormina Gardens.

These works involve the following key pinch point remedial works:

  • Reconfiguration of the main centre access at the Toormina Road/Bangalee Crescent intersection to allow for additional capacity through the provision of dual right turn lanes as traffic exits the centre.
  • Provision of a new internal intersection as customers access via the main road entry enabling safer movement with clear direction to the south and south eastern carpark areas.
  • Removal of the former medical centre in the northwest corner of the site located adjacent to the Toormina Road and replacement with additional car parking.

As further evidence of the commitment to the safety of our patrons, Toormina Gardens has partnered with Little Blue Dinosaur in the ‘Hold My Hand’ initiative - that supports child safety Australia wide. Part of the planned improvements include carpark signage to remind everyone about car park safety. There will also be in-centre signage, local radio advertising and social media all supporting this very important campaign.

Centre Manager Hattie Watson stated that “the car park safety, in particular the accessibility, has been a gripe with our customer base for a while. The owners, through their national partnership with Little Blue Dinosaur, are committed to providing the safest possible shopping experience for our families. In this way, it enables us to engage the entire family in improving the awareness of road safety not just in our centre but in the overall community. We see that as our responsibility being the community hub of the area”.

In addition to the approved works, there is also a development application pending approval to bring an additional pad site food offer to the centre. In addition to serving up a new and convenient food offering to the Toormina community, the restaurant would provide a wide range of career and training opportunities for over 100 locals.
